Pakistan has decided to invite former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the opening ceremony of the Kartarpur Opening Ceremony in November.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced the decision in a video message on Monday.
He said that after consultation with the Pakistani authorities, it was decided that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be invited to attend the inauguration of Kartarpur Opening Ceremony.
It should be noted that despite the end of the special constitutional status of India-administered Kashmir by India, Pakistan did not stop work on the Kartarpur transit project despite the tensions in diplomatic relations between the two countries
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Manmohan Singh represents the Sikh community and ‘we have decided that we want to invite former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to attend this (inaugural ceremony). He has faith and he is very dear to us. “
The Foreign Minister said that regular invitation would be sent to Manmohan Singh from the Government of Pakistan.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi says, “This is a great program, Pakistan is very happy with it, Pakistan is preparing for it. The Prime Minister (Imran Khan) has a personal interest in this.
Foreign Minister of Pakistan said in the video message that all Sikh pilgrims, we are also waiting for them to come and join in the 550th birthday of Baba Gurunanak Sahib.
Why is Kartarpur important to Sikhs?
Kartarpur is the place where Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of the Sikhs, spent the last days of his life.
It also has a burial place and tomb in the Gurdwara which serves as a sacred place for Sikhs and Muslims.
Where is Kartarpur ?
The Darbar Sahib Gurdwara, located in Kartarpur, is only a few kilometers from the Indian border and it takes about 130 km from Lahore and about three hours to reach this Gurdwara in the limits of Narwal district.
The Gurdwara Tehsil is located on the western side of the River Ravi in Kot Pand, a small village in Shikargarh Tehsil.
The distance from Dera Sahib railway station in India is about four kilometers. To the east of the Ravi is the Indian border with barbed wire.
Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur is a unique place of its kind. Unlike other holy places of Sikhs located in Pakistan, Dera Sahib Lahore, Panja Sahib Hassan Abdal and Janam Esthana Nankana Sahib are in a village near the border.
